50,000th Nissan Magnite rolls-out from Chennai plant

Written by Akhil Dalvi

Japanese automotive giant Nissan has announced the rollout of its 50,000th Magnite SUV from its plant in Chennai. The Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) plant produces the automaker’s first global SUV under its ‘NEXT’ transformation plan. Along with the aim of fulfilling long-lasting value to its customers, Nissan India aims to strengthen its overall presence. The automaker has built Magnite using its ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ philosophy under its global transformation strategy.

Nissan Magnite: An Overview

Launched in December 2020, the Magnite is Nissan’s first compact SUV for the Indian market that shares its platform with Renault. Priced at INR 5,76,500 (ex-showroom), the Magnite sports a unique exterior design with stylish LED headlamps and DRLs. Accentuating the look even further are the bumper-mounted fog lamps, unique LED taillights, and 16-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels. So far, Nissan India has produced 50,000 magnets in Chennai despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the global semiconductor chip shortage.

A few weeks prior, Nissan India also announced that the Magnite had successfully scored a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating. This proves Nissan India’s supreme focus on adult occupant protection via the Magnite in any driving condition across India. Another key factor highlighting the sub-compact SUV is the emphasis on versatility as it can navigate easily through Indian roads. The Nissan Magnite gets 2 petrol engines and 3 gearboxes- a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 5-speed CVT.

Export Strategy & Offers

In 2021, Nissan successfully introduced the Magnite in the South African and Indonesian markets along with customers from other countries. These include Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zambia, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Malawi. The automaker claims that the Magnite comes with the best, lowest-in-class maintenance cost of 30 paise/km in India.

Additionally, the Magnite sports a 2-year/50,000 Km warranty which customers can extend to a 5-year/1,00,000 Km. Nissan India has also launched a first-in-industry, innovative Virtual Sales Advisor for Nissan Magnite customers as part of its digital platform. Nissan India’s subscription plan allows customers to own a vehicle with a ‘White Plate’ and a ‘Buy Back Option’.
