5-Star Euro NCAP safety rating for Range Rover & Range Rover Sport

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

The New Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have both been crash-tested. The latest Euro NCAP safety tests awarded maximum five-star ratings for luxury SUVs. This reflects upon the brand’s more than 50 years of expertise in delivering an exceptional breadth of all-terrain capability, refinement and safety. These new models of SUVs are the latest in a long line of Range Rovers to receive a five-star rating. This is under the stringent Euro NCAP star rating safety protocols.

Platform Underpinning The SUVs

Both models use a new mixed-metal, flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture. Land Rover says this platform provides solid foundations for a suite of state-of-the-art driver assistance technologies to work harmoniously for a responsive and refined drive. New Range Rove has four-, five- and seven-seat configurations. And also, the SUV is up to 50 per cent stiffer than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Range Rover Sport is 35 per cent stiffer than before.

Safety Test Ratings

The New Range Rover scored 87 per cent for Child Occupant Protection and 72 per cent for Vulnerable Road Users. On the other hand, the Range Rover Sport achieved an 85 per cent rating for Adult Occupant Protection. Both the SUVs received 82 per cent for Safety Assist. These excellent Euro NCAP results resonate with all the hard work and expertise that went into designing, engineering and manufacturing. All of this combined perfectly to make vehicles have enhanced safety, capability and luxury. Land Rover’s robust and mixed metal MLA-Flex body architecture provides solid foundations for a suite of cutting-edge active safety systems. All of which work in tandem to protect occupants and other road users.

Key Safety Features For Both The SUVs

New Range Rover and Range Rover Sport host a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These are designed in a way to support the driver and protect occupants.

One of them is 3D Surround Camera and ClearSight Ground View. With this, a surround camera system provides a 3D, 360-degree view around the vehicle and can display several views simultaneously on the touchscreen display when manoeuvring. This helps give the driver detailed information about their surroundings. ClearSight Ground View allows the drivers to see the hidden area directly ahead of, and beneath the bonnet, on the central touchscreen display.

Driver Condition Response brings the SUV to a halt and initiates the hazard warning lights if the driver fails to respond to a series of audio-visual prompts.

Pre-emptive suspension helps the suspension to automatically switches to Dynamic mode when The Forward Collision Warning system detects a collision risk. This assists the driver if evasive manoeuvres are required by delivering the most agile responses.

With Adaptive Cruise Control and Steering Assist, the Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a set cruising speed for the vehicle. The vehicle’s speed automatically reduces if a slower-moving vehicle is ahead in the lane ahead. Steering Assist helps the driver keep the car in the centre of its lane by making minor steering inputs.

Park Assist helps detects available parking spaces and manoeuvres the vehicle into parallel and perpendicular spaces. Park Assist also controls the car during a manoeuvre using the steering, acceleration, gear selection and braking.

Safety Features To Enhance Driver Alertness

Alongside the active safety systems, New Range Rover and Range Rover Sport also sport new technologies that aim to improve driver alertness and reduce the potential for distraction. Both vehicles come equipped with Cabin Air Purification Pro 1. This system takes interior air quality to a new level. Not only does the PM2.5 filtration and Nanoe™-X technology help to significantly reduce odours, bacteria and allergens. It also enhances wellness and alertness by monitoring CO₂ levels inside and automatically introduces fresh external air when required. High concentrations of CO₂ also contribute to drowsiness, so the system proactively contributes to optimum driver alertness.
