5-door Mahindra Thar boot space revealed

Mahindra’s Thar has been pretty successful. The launch prices since 2020 have just moved up while the demand for the lifestyle SUV has remained more or less the same. Recently, the Thar 4×2 was launched with a lower price point. With the new Jimny coming soon, Mahindra’s 5-door Thar is also being readied. This time, we have got some idea of the interiors and the boot space of the 5-door Thar.

New Details of the 5-door Thar

The SUV was camouflaged, but we can identify some new elements. This includes square LED fog lamps, as well as a combination of red and grey paint shades under the camouflage. The boot space of the car appears to be larger than the current 3-door Thar. This is good news, as the addition of passengers on the 5-door Thar means there will be a requirement for larger luggage space.

The images of the test mule show that there is a lack of 4×4 low-range gear on the centre console. This means that the 5-door Thar will be offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 options. The front row now gains a much needed arm rest between the two seats. It is possible that this arm rest will house AC vents for the rear occupants. Additionally, the second row seats were individual captain seats which could mean that Mahindra might consider the Thar as a 4-seater only. Or, it is possible that there could be a 3rd-row bench seat as well.

While most of the details are same as the 3-door Thar, the rear door handles are mounted on the C-pillar, like the ones on the Swift. There is still the issue of missing rear wiper / washer. Maybe the production models will have it.

What we know about the 5-door Thar

Mahindra has already confirmed that 5-door Thar will share the same underpinnings as the Scorpio N’s platform. 81 per cent of this platform uses high-strength steel. For Scorpio N, Mahindra gave priority to chassis stiffness, handling and high-speed manners.

Coming to engine options, the 2.2-litre diesel and the 2.0-litre petrol will be offered. Mahindra could also offer the 1.5-litre diesel making it a sweet option for those who want a lower cost for the Thar.
