Written by Vidhi Thapa

In India, the Mahindra Thar has sold over 2 lakh units since its 2020 introduction, which is an incredible feat for an off-road vehicle. This accomplishment confirms that the Thar is one of the most adored SUVs in the nation and emphasises its ongoing appeal.

Since the top-spec 3-door Thar models are expensive, Mahindra eventually introduced rear-wheel drive versions, lowering the beginning price of the well-liked off-road vehicle. Sales were especially increased by this action since it attracted customers who would not normally take the Thar off-road.

Offered features by Mahindra Thar:

The Thar feature list that includes all four power windows, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, steering-mounted audio controls, a rear defogger, and manual air conditioning are among the conveniences.

It is equipped with a roll cage, rear parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, a rear defogger, dual front airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a driver’s seat that can be adjusted in height.

A variety of engine options are available for the Mahindra Thar to accommodate various driving requirements. It has a 1.5-litre diesel engine that generates 118 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It can be paired with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a 6-speed manual gearbox. With a four-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain and a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox, the 2.2-litre diesel version produces 130 PS and 300 Nm of torque.

The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 150 PS and 300 Nm of torque (320 Nm with the automated gearbox) and is available with both RWD and 4WD variants. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Regardless of whether you’re searching for off-road or on-road performance, the Thar’s wide range of engines and drivetrain choices guarantees its versatility.

Ex-showroom prices for the three-door Thar range from INR 11.35 lakh to INR 17.60 lakh. Compared to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it is larger and competes with the Force Gurkha 3-door variant.
