Kia India has unveiled the 2025 Kia Syros SUV, marking its global debut in the country. This compact premium SUV is set to create a new segment in the Indian market, and will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia India’s line-up.

Kia Syros SUV: A New Segment

The Kia Syros is positioned between the Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos, catering to buyers looking for a premium yet compact SUV. With its fresh and advanced features, the Syros aims to attract a younger and more premium customer base.

The Syros boasts a boxy design with vertical LED headlights and taillights, giving it a bold and modern look. It features 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and flush door handles for a sleek appearance. Inside, the Syros offers a triple-screen setup with a 12.3-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital driver display, along with a 5-inch screen for air conditioning controls. The Syros also gets first in segment all-four ventilated seats and multi-zone climate control.

We can safely say that the design is inspired by Kia’s flagship EV9 and the Syros is a mini version of the same.

The Syros is packed with advanced features, including Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) with features like Forward Collision Avoidance Assist and Lane Keep Assist. It also comes with a 360-degree camera for enhanced visibility and a wireless charger for added convenience.

Engine Options

Under the hood, the Syros offers two engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine delivering 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines come with manual and automatic transmission options, providing flexibility for different driving styles.

There is no naturally aspirated engine like the Sonet and Seltos. Also this is the first time Kia is offering the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with a manual transmission. There are rumours about an EV variant coming in the future.

Market Impact

Kia India expects strong interest from buyers in the competitive Indian market. The Syros is Kia’s fifth SUV in India and aims to increase the company’s market share in the compact SUV segment. There is no direct competitor for the Kia Syros as it slots in the sub-4 meter segment. This segment is dominated by the Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue with the Kia Sonet closely following them.

Bookings for the Syros will begin in January 2025, with deliveries expected to start in February 2025. Prices will probably announced at the Bharat Mobility Expo in January.
