2024 Maruti Suzuki Baleno scores 4-stars at B-NCAP crash test

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Baleno has become the first hatchback to undergo Bharat NCAP crash testing, earning a 4-star rating for adult occupant protection and 3 stars for child occupant protection. The results highlight significant improvements in safety, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to enhanced crash protection.

Crash test results and safety features

Bharat NCAP tested all four Baleno variants—Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. The Zeta and Alpha trims, which feature six airbags, scored higher in adult safety compared to the Sigma and Delta models, which come with two airbags.

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) Scores

  • Zeta & Alpha variants: 26.52/32
  • Sigma & Delta variants: 24.04/32

Child Occupant Protection (COP) Scores

  • All variants: 34.81/49

The frontal offset deformable barrier test showed good head and neck protection, while chest protection was rated marginal. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Baleno provided adequate protection for the head and abdomen, but chest protection remained marginal.

Safety equipment and compliance

The Baleno comes equipped with:

  • ABS with EBD and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
  • Hill Hold Assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
  • 360-degree camera and seatbelt pre-tensioners.
  • AIS-100 pedestrian protection compliance.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that six airbags will become standard across all variants later this year.

Market impact and consumer response

The Baleno’s 4-star rating positions it ahead of several hatchback rivals, reinforcing its safety credentials. While the Dzire sedan secured a 5-star rating, the Baleno’s performance remains commendable for its segment.
