Written by Parichay Malvankar

Recently, on the eve of World EV Day, Mahindra unveiled the all-new, all-electric XUV400 SUV in India. The new model is an important product for the brand as it also marks its entry into the EV space. M&M says the XUV400 is the perfect electric SUV for personal buyers looking to embrace the future.

The new electric SUV is also a part of the recently announced XUV sub-brand. This XUV sub-brand will have electric-only models and sport the twin peaks logo in a satin copper finish. The XUV400 becomes the first product from Mahindra to wear it.

Unveiling the all-electric SUV was the first step. Following this, M&M will launch the “XUV400 Fun Fest”. This will take place across 16 major cities in India for M&M’s customers. Later on, in December 2022, M&M will start with test drives and display the XUV400 at its showrooms across the country. M&M also announced that its price reveal and bookings will start from January 2023. Following this, deliveries for M&M’s first all-electric offering will start from January end.

2023 Mahindra XUV400 – Highlights

The all-electric XUV400 gets a host of exclusive touches to differentiate from the standard XUV300. Firstly, being an EV, it gets a closed-off grille. Next, at 4,200mm in length, the XUV400 is also larger than its ICE counterpart. Thus, M&M says it is a generously sized SUV. As for the exclusive touches, it gets a signature trim accent around the SUV in a satin copper finish. On the sides, it also gets new high-gloss 16-inch alloy wheels with a diamond-cut high-contrast surface treatment.

M&M built the XUV400 in collaboration with global partners from South Korea. The XUV400 leverages their strengths across various segments. These include an advanced tech ecosystem for speed and expertise in calibration, system integration as well as vehicle validation. M&M also says the XUV400 comes with high-precision micro-controllers for critical parts such as smart vehicle control unit and battery management system. This ensures the highest level of safety compliance as per global standards.

2023 Mahindra XUV400 – Battery, Range & Charging

With a 0 to 100kmph time of 8.3 seconds, Mahindra claims the XUV400 is the fastest Indian make passenger car in the non-luxury segment. Meanwhile, its top speed stands at 150 kmph. The all-electric SUV uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack, which Mahindra developed as per ISO standards. Thus, ensuring the highest functional safety for an India-built EV. The battery pack’s state-of-the-art Li-ion cells also offer better longevity. Thanks to the large battery pack, M&M claims it offers a best-in-class range of 456 km on a single charge. This figure is as per the Indian driving cycle (MIDC).

The XUV400 also supports fast charging. M&M claims a 0 to 80 per cent charge using a 50 kW DC fast charger takes only 50 minutes. Meanwhile, it takes 6 hours and 30 minutes to charge from 0 to 100 per cent using a 7.2 kW/32A outlet. At the same time, a full charge, i.e. from 0 to 100 per cent, takes 13 hours using a standard 3.3 kW/16A domestic socket.
