2023 Honda City facelift spotted in India

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Honda cars sold just over 9500 cars in the month of October 2022. The majority of those came from the City sedan. The Honda City is an important vehicle for the Japanese carmaker.

Honda City Facelift spotted

The car spotted in India, was heavily camouflaged and on a flatbed trailer. The Indian version of the facelift is likely to be different from that of the South-East Asian markets. The car spotted in India gets regular bumpers, shape of the car is subtle, compared to the sporty version in SE Asia and side skirts are not present and alloys wheels are that of the standard car. All this could mean that the facelift might get a few feature changes but nothing major.

New Features on the facelift version

Honda could offer features like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and a digital instrument cluster. The City might also get Level 1 ADAS features as part of the updated safety package.

In India, the Honda City is positioned as an executive sedan, rather than as a sports car. The 2023 Honda City is expected to retain the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine from the current model. In its current avatar, the engine develops 119 BHP @ 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to be discontinued.

Mechanical changes on the Honda City facelift

There are no changes expected mechanically as well. Internationally, the City gets a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Considering that rival Slavia too comes with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, it is possible that Honda could consider downsizing as well. On the other hand, Honda is the only carmaker apart from Hyundai offering a diesel option in the mid-size sedan offerings. That said, a diesel automatic is sorely missed from the line-up.

As the car was spotted in Pune, it could also be possible that the test mule is being sent to ARAI for testing and regulatory approvals.
