2023 Auto Expo in India – What to expect?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

The 2023 Auto Expo is taking place after a hiatus of 3 years. That said, many top brands have decided not to participate. The event is scheduled to take place from January 13-18, 2023 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. Media will be allowed access on the 11th. Simultaneously, the components expo will take place at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The Auto Expo is one of India’s biggest automotive event. Many carmakers showcase their concept vehicles as well as new launches are done at the event. Amongst the major brands – Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors have confirmed their participation. Also present will be MG Motor, Toyota, Kia and electric carmaker BYD.

However, Mahindra, Honda, Isuzu, Citroen, Nissan, Volkswagen and Skoda will not be participating this time around. Car makers feel that the Expo costs are on the higher side and many brands don’t have any new products to showcase as well.

In premium segment, only Lexus and Volvo have confirmed their presence at the 2023 Auto Expo. The German trio of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi will also be skipping the event. Jaguar and Land Rover will also be absent.

India’s biggest automotive exposition is back after a three year break. However, reports suggest that several big brands have decided to opt out this time.

In the two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj and TVS will not be coming to the event.

Commercial segment brands like Ashok Leyland, Eicher, JBM and Isuzu will display their offering at the Expo.

The Auto Expo is organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Confederation Of Indian Industry (CII). The organising team is working out with automakers to offer special packages by aggregating some of the participants to lower the costs. They are looking to sway some of the participants who have backed out due to costs. One of the main reasons for missing out the event is said to be high costs. Some brands end up spending upwards of Rs. 50 crores for the event.

The 2023 Auto Expo will be held in Greater Noida near Delhi from January 13-18.
