2022 Tata Nexon EV Max Vs. Nexon EV – Price & Specification Comparison

Tata Motors India recently launched the new Nexon EV Max. The new long-range version of the Nexon offers more new interiors and better safety features. More importantly, the Nexon EV Max gets a bigger battery, and longer claimed range. However, the prices have gone up significantly. In this price and specification comparison, we pin the Nexon EV against the new Nexon EV Max so that you can make an informed buying decision.

2022 Tata Nexon EV Max Vs. Nexon EV – Variants, Price and Colours

The new Tata Nexon EV Max is available in two variants – XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. The starting price for the Nexon EV Max is INR 17.74 lakh ex-showroom for the XZ+. At the same time, the price for the XZ+ Lux variant is INR 18.74 lakh ex-showroom. Both the variants are also available with an option of a faster 7.2 kW AC charger. The faster charger adds an additional INR 50,000 to the ex-showroom price. 

Unlike the Nexon EV Max, the standard Nexon EV is available in many variants. The range starts with the XM at INR 14.54 lakh ex-showroom. The other variants are – XZ+, XZ+ Lux. The Nexon EV is also available in Dark Edition. The Dark Edition variants are – XZ+ Dark and XZ+ Lux Dark. Pricing for the XZ+ and XZ+ Lux is INR 15.95 lakh and INR 16.95 lakh ex-showroom. On the other hand, pricing for the Dark Edition variants is INR 16.29 lakh ex-showroom for the XZ+ Dark and INR 17.14 lakh ex-showroom for the XZ+ Lux Dark.

The Nexon EV Max is available in three colour options – Pristine White, Daytona Grey and the exclusive Intensi-Teal. While the Nexon EV is available in two colour options – Glacier White and Teal Blue. Additionally, Nexon EV is also available in the Dark Edition. The Dark Edition comes in Black colour and also gets a blacked-out theme for the exterior and interior.                                                              

2022 Tata Nexon EV Max Vs. Nexon EV – Powertrain, Battery Pack and Range

Apart from the features on the inside, the powertrain differences are the reason for the Nexon EV Max’s inception. The Nexon EV Max gets a larger 40.5 kWh battery pack. It produces 143 PS and 250 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Nexon EV uses a smaller 30.2 kWh battery pack. The output figures are also lower, at 129 PS and 245 Nm torque. Both the battery pack are IP67-rated for waterproof and dust protection. 

Due to the additional power and torque on tap, the Nexon EV Max makes the 0-100 kmph sprint in under 9 seconds. While the Nexon EV isn’t far behind and takes under 10 seconds. Tata has not provided exact figures for either of them. 

The Nexon EV Max gets a claimed range of 437 km on a single charge against the Nexon EV’s 312 km. However, it is important to note that the claimed figure for Nexon EV Max is as per the MIDC cycle while the Nexon EV’s is ARAI claimed.

2022 Tata Nexon EV Max Vs. Nexon EV – Safety Features

The Nexon EV Max gets a host of additional safety features over the Nexon EV. These include ESP with i-VBAC (intelligent-Vaccum-less Boost and Active Control), Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control. For additional braking performance, the Nexon EV Max also gets 4-disc brakes. The Nexon EV gets drum brakes at the rear. Additionally, the mechanical parking is replaced with a new Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hill Hold on the Nexon EV Max. The Electronic Parking Brake also has an Auto Vehicle Hold function. The Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV get dual airbags as standard across the range.

2022 Tata Nexon EV Max Vs. Nexon EV – Charging

The Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV come standard with a 3.3 kW AC wall box charger. However, the Nexon EV Max also comes with an option of a 7.2 kW AC Fast Charger. The Nexon EV Max takes 15 hours to charge from 10 to 100 per cent using the 3.3 kW charger. At the same time, because of the smaller battery pack, the Nexon EV takes 8 hours to charge from 20 to 100 per cent. However, using the faster 7.2 kW AC Fast Charger, the Nexon EV Max takes around 6.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100 per cent. Additionally, the company says a 50 kW DC Fast Charger will charge the Nexon EV Max from 0 to 80 per cent in just 56 minutes.
