2022 MotoGP World Champions – Ducati with Francesco Bagnaia

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Great news for the fans of Francesco Bagnaia. He is the 2022 MotoGP World Champion. With a ninth-place finish in the Valencia GP at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Cheste, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider has secured his first MotoGP World Title. This was after making a historic comeback in the Championship. This has never been achieved before by any other rider in the premier class. After finishing sixth in the standings at the end of the German GP, Pecco managed to close a gap of 91 points on Fabio Quartararo over eight Grands Prix. With this, he took the lead in the Championship with 14 points over the Frenchman in the Australian GP, at Phillip Island, with two more races to go.

The Comeback That Changed The Fortune For Bagnaia and Ducati

After increasing his lead to 23 points, all thanks to a stunning victory at Sepang in Malaysia, Bagnaia just needed a ninth place to secure Ducati’s second Riders’ World Title in the premier class. This was 15 years after Casey Stoner’s first title in 2007. This is a historic achievement for the 25-year-old from Turin and the Bologna-based manufacturer. With seven wins, ten podiums, and five pole positions this year, Bagnaia became the first Italian rider to win the MotoGP World Championship on an Italian bike, the Ducati Desmosedici GP.

Bagnaia talked about his determination and thanked the support of the entire team. The comeback after Germany, wherein he was 91 points off the top, was detrimental to his title. But with the right motivation, he made an emphatic comeback and won the title in Valencia. The race in Valencia had its own share of takeaways. With Bagnaia’s contact with Fabio, he lost a wing of his bike. And from there on, he did struggle a lot. But having finished 9th, the result was enough to take home the title.
