2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Vs. Hyundai Creta – Specification Comparison

Not long after Toyota unveiled the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki unveiled its iteration of the SUV, the Grand Vitara. The new SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be its most premium offering in India. The company will sell the Grand Vitara exclusively through its NEXA dealerships. The all-new Grand Vitara will also sit at the top in the NEXA range of cars. The Grand Vitara is an important product for the brand. The company plans to sell the Grand Vitara not just in India but also in international markets. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota jointly developed the new SUV. The Grand Vitara will also join the Toyota Hyryder as the only two strong hybrids in the segment.

On the other hand, we have Hyundai’s Creta. The SUV is one of the most popular models in its segment. Furthermore, it is also the most-selling SUV in India in recent months. The first-generation Creta changed the game for mid-size SUVs in India. Since then, there have been many launches in the segment, including from its sister brand, Kia. Along with the Kia Seltos, the Creta enjoys great success in its segment in India. With the all-new Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki aims to dethrone the Creta as the segment king.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Vs. Hyundai Creta – Variants & Colour Options

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki will offer the all-new Grand Vitara in six main variants. These are – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+ and Alpha+. The Zeta+ and Alpha+ variants are exclusively available with the Intelligent Electric Hybrid, which is the strong hybrid powertrain. Meanwhile, the rest get the Smart Hybrid powertrain. All except for the base Sigma variant of the Smart Hybrid options are available with an automatic gearbox. Furthermore, the Alpha variant is also available with 4WD, but only with a manual gearbox. At the same time, the Zeta+ and Alpha+ variants of the Intelligent Electric Hybrid only come with an automatic transmission.

As for the colour options, the new Grand Vitara is available in a total of 9 of them. These include 6 single-tone colour options and 3 dual-tone options. The single-tone options are – Celestial Blue, Arctic White, Chestnut Brown, Grandeur Grey, Opulent Red and Splendid Silver. Meanwhile, the dual-tone options are – Arctic White / Midnight Black, Opulent Red / Midnight Black and Splendid Silver / Midnight Black.

Hyundai Creta

On the other hand, Hyundai offers the Creta in a total of 8 variants. This also includes the new for 2022, Creta Knight Edition. The variants are – E, EX, S, SX Executive, SX and SX (O). The Knight Edition of the Creta is available in S+ and SX (O) variants. The Creta is available with 3 engines and 5 gearbox options. The engine options include – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.

The 1.5-litre petrol with a manual gearbox is not available in the SX (O) and SX (O) Knight Edition variants. And, the 1.5-litre petrol with an iMT gearbox is only available in the S variant. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre petrol with the IVT gearbox is available in – SX, SX (O) and the SX (O) Knight Edition variants.

The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol mill is only available in S and SX (O) variants. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre diesel with a manual gearbox is available in all except for the top-end SX (O) Knight Edition. The diesel engine with an automatic gearbox is only available in SX (O) and SX (O) Knight Edition.

The 2022 Hyundai Creta is available in a total of 8 colour options. These include a dual-tone option, 6 single-tone and the special Knight Edition. The singe-tone options include – Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey, Denim Blue, Red Mulberry and Phantom Black. The only dual-tone colour option is the Polar White / Phantom Black Roof. Furthermore, it is only available in the SX (O) DCT variant. And then there’s the Knight Edition. The special edition gets a blacked-out theme and also includes red-coloured brake callipers. 

2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Vs. Hyundai Creta – Powertrain

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara shares its powertrains with the Toyota Hyryder. Thus, the latest Maruti Suzuki SUV gets a mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain. Powering the Smart Hybrid model is the company’s 1.5-litre K-series four-cylinder engine. This engine gets mild hybrid technology and also features an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The engine makes 103.06 PS at 6,000 rpm and 136.8 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. It will come with two transmission options – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Alpha variant of the Grand Vitara will also be available with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD drivetrain. However, only the manual variant is available with the AWD drivetrain. 

The other engine option is a Toyota-sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine. The engine runs the Atkinson cycle for better efficiency. Furthermore, it gets a self-charging hybrid system. The engine alone produces 92.45 PS at 5,500 rpm and 122 Nm of torque from 4,400 rpm to 4,800 rpm. The engine also comes with an 80.2 PS electric motor. The combined total output is 115.56 PS of power. The Intelligent Electric Hybrid variants only come with an e-CVT transmission. With a fuel efficiency claim of 27.97 kmpl, the brand also claims it is India’s most fuel-efficient SUV.

Hyundai Creta

On the other hand, the Creta come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol options include – a 1.5-litre MPi and a 1.4-litre Turbo GDi. Meanwhile, the only diesel engine option is the 1.5-litre U2 CRDi. The 1.5-litre MPi petrol motor makes 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 143.8 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The naturally-aspirated petrol is available in three gearbox options. These are – a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT and an IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission).

The 1.4-litre Turbo GDi, on the other hand, makes 140 PS at 6,000 rpm and 242 Nm between 1,500 rpm to 3,200 rpm. The turbocharged petrol is only available with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine makes 115 PS at 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm from 1,500 to 2,750 rpm. It is available in two transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. 

2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Vs. Hyundai Creta – Dimensions

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara measures 4,345 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,645 mm in height. The wheelbase, meanwhile, is 2,600 mm. Though we don’t know the fuel tank capacity or tyre sizes, expect it to be similar to the Toyota Hyryder. Thus, the fuel tank capacity will likely be 45 litres, and tyre sizes will likely be 215/60 R17. 

On the other hand, the Hyundai Creta is shorter, narrower and also less tall than the Grand Vitara. It measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width and 1,635 mm in height. However, Creta’s 2,610 mm wheelbase is just a bit longer. The fuel tank capacity of the Creta is 50 litres. Lower variants of the Creta get 205/65 R16 steel or alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the higher variants get 215/60 R17 alloy wheels.
