Written by Rohit Tonapi

We recently found out that Mahindra will be updating the Scorpio Classic. And now, ahead of the launch of the Scorpio-N, we know about the variants Mahindra will offer with the “Big Daddy of SUVs”. The new information comes from the type-approval certificates. These certificates also show what variants Mahindra will offer the Scorpio Classic in.

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will come in a total of 47 variants. These will consist of 29 Scorpio-N diesel variants, 13 Scorpio-N petrol variants and 5 variants of the Scorpio Classic.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic Variants

The company will offer the Scorpio Classic in a total of 5 variants. The Scorpio Classic range will consist of the base S3+ and S11 variants. The S3+ variant will come in both 7-seater and 9-seater versions. The S11 variant will also come in three sub-variants and 7-seater and 9-seater configurations. All the variants of the Scorpio Classic will use the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. However, they will come in a lower 132 HP state of tune.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N Diesel Variants

On the other hand, the 2022 Scorpio-N will come in a total of 29 diesel variants. These variants will be – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and the range-topping Z8L. Unlike the Scorpio Classic, the diesel engine will also be available in a higher state of tune, 4WD and an automatic gearbox in the higher variants. The lower variants – Z2 and Z4, will come in the same 132 HP state of tune as the Scorpio Classic. The higher variants will additionally come with three driving modes – Zip, Zap and Zoom. The Zip mode’s power output will be 138 HP. Meanwhile, the Zap and Zoom modes will offer a higher 175 HP of power.

The 2022 Scorpio-N will also come with an option of a 4WD system. Mahindra will offer the 4WD drivetrain with the Z4 variant onwards. The company will use a part-time 4WD system called the XPlor. The part-time 4WD system normally sends power to the rear wheels for better fuel efficiency. The XPlor 4WD system will also come with different terrain modes: mud, sand, grass and snow. Users can select these modes using a rotary dial on the centre console.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N Petrol Variants

The Scorpio-N will come in a total of 13 petrol variants. Out of these, 7 variants will come with a manual and 6 variants with an automatic transmission. The variant names are – Z2, Z4, Z6 and Z8. Like the diesel, these are further divided as per seating configuration and transmission options.

All the petrol variants of the Scorpio-N will use the 2.0-litre mEagle turbo-petrol motor. This is the same engine that does duty in the XUV700. The motor displaces 1,997cc and produces a peak power of 202 HP. Contrary to previous reports, the Scorpio-N petrol will only come with a 2WD drivetrain. Like the diesel, it is available in 7- and 9-seat configurations.
