2022 Kia Carnival MPV is SAFE!

Written by Nizam Shaikh

The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has revealed that the nonprofit organization funded by auto insurance companies has chosen the 2022 Kia Carnival Minivan as the Top Safety Pick. The IIHS awards the Top Safety Pick award and the Top Safety Pick+ award depending on the standard equipment available on the vehicle. The Top Safety Pick award for the Kia Minivan is also awarded as a specific set of headlights come as standard on the car.

Top Safety Pick Award

The vehicle needs to be eligible in six IIHS crashworthiness tests to qualify for the Top Safety Pick award. These tests include driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. To earn the award, the car needs to earn good ratings in all six tests.

Furthermore, the cars must also be available with a front crash prevention system which earns them advanced or superior ratings. To achieve higher ratings, the front crash prevention system must perform both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. The brand must also offer at least one headlight package to earn a good or acceptable rating. To achieve the Top Safety Pick+ award, the vehicle must come with good or acceptable headlights.

2022 Kia Carnival Top Safety Pick

The Kia Carnival features two different front crash prevention systems, one is standard, and the other is optional. Both systems earn superior ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. The brand also offers LED projector headlights with the SX Prestige trim. The Carnival did not qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ award because its base headlights got poor ratings due to inadequate illumination. However, the brand earned Good points in all the six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations. The Carnival also earns an acceptable ease-of-use rating for its child seat attachment (LATCH) hardware and gets to become the third minivan in 2021 for the safety award.
