2022 Honda CB300R recalled for crankcase cover problem

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Honda has announced a voluntary recall for their CB300R motorcycle. The recall is said to be subject to only the 2022 model year CB300R, and not the units sold before or after. Customers who own this motorcycle, should contact their nearest Honda showroom to get their bike inspected & fixed. As of date, the Honda CB300R retails at a price of INR 2,77,267 ex-showroom Delhi.

What Is The Problem?

Honda has identified that the MY22 CB300R motorcycle had a problem in the manufacturing process of the right side crankcase cover on the motor. Due to this, the sealing plug could get dislodged because of less retention force which can be caused due to the engine heating up. In some cases, the sealing plug could detach itself and the engine oil can spill / splash out. Worst case scenario as mentioned by Honda is that the oil then splashing on hot motorcycle running parts could result in a fire, come in contact with the tyres resulting in a slip / slide / accident or also hurt the rider due to splashing and the oils hot temperature.

What Is The Solution?

This is a voluntary recall, and Honda will inspect all bikes which could potentially have this issue at BigWing service centres across the nation from 15th April 2023 onward. The faulty part will be replaced for free, for all motorcycles. Even if your bike is outside of the official warranty, Honda will still offer you a part replacement for free. Honda dealers will also contact customers via call or message or email so that they are informed of this problem on their motorcycle, and to get it checked.

Customers can also check if their vehicle is subject to this recall, and runs using this faulty part, by using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and checking it on the Honda BigWing website. Honda has requested the customers to speak to their nearest dealer and get an appointment for this part fix, to avoid any inconvenience.
