In 2022, BMW will launch the i7 electric sedan, which is currently undergoing testing near the Arctic Circle. According to BMW test engineers, the area’s frozen surfaces and snow-covered roads act as the ideal conditions for testing.

Testing details and Technical Innovations

With the i7’s winter testing, BMW aims to showcase the dynamics, comfort, and supremacy in the luxury class with zero emissions. In order to balance the sportiness with ride comfort, BMW has tested the i7’s suspension components, steering, and braking systems. BMW has also tested the i7’s driving dynamics, vehicle stability systems along with tuning the performance-focused parts. These parts include the wheel suspension, springs, dampers, and various regulating systems to match the various different drive types.

During the testing, BMW also ensured to focus and tune the i7’s Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC). The automaker has used its 5th generation eDrive technology for the i7 for absolute sustainable driving pleasure. This technology which is also seen on the iX, consists of an electric drivetrain, high-voltage battery, power electronics, and charging technology. BMW states that the i7 will also use its CLAR platform, which underpins the iX, i4, and ICE-powered 2 Series.

2022 BMW i7: Expected Powertrain

BMW has not announced the powertrain for the i7 but may borrow the battery and motor configuration from the iX. BMW’s iX electric SUV sports a dual-electric motor set up, which produces a total power output of 516 PS. The electric SUV features a 105.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 628 Km of driving range. When BMW launches the new i7 in 2022, it will take on the Mercedes-Benz EQS as its immediate rival.
