Written by Nizam Shaikh

Yamaha is planning to expand the colour palette on the brand’s much-popular sports bike, the YZF-R15. A new picture of the motorcycle in a new Red shade has emerged on the internet leading us to believe that the Japanese manufacturer will be launching it soon. The new Red colour will refresh the motorcycle which is currently available in the Racing Blue, Thunder Grey and Dark Knight colour options.

Design & Styling

The new Red shade features on the sides of the tank, side fairing and the under-cowl on the tail section. The brand has used a contrasting grey shade to bring up the new red shade and the nose fairing, tank top, side fairing vents, front fender and belly cowling come in the dark grey finish. The 17-inch alloy wheels also feature red rim tape to match the overall theme. Apart from the new colour, the motorcycle remains unchanged in the design department.

Powertrain

Powering the Yamaha YZF-R15 is a BS6 emission-compliant liquid-cooled 155cc single-cylinder four-stroke, four-valve SOHC engine with electronic fuel injection and VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology producing 18.6 PS of power and 14.1 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper assist clutch that prevents rear wheel lock-up during aggressive downshifts.

Mechanical Bits

In terms of mechanical parts, the motorcycle remains the same as before and continues to ride on a Deltabox chassis with 41 mm diameter conventional telescopic front suspension, a linkage-type monocross suspension, a 282mm hydraulic disc on the front and a 220mm hydraulic disc on the rear equipped with a dual-channel ABS. The Yamaha YZF-R15 is 1,990 mm in length, 725 mm in width, 1,135 mm in height, comes with a wheelbase of 1325mm and a saddle height of 815 mm. The motorcycle gets 170mm of ground clearance, 11-litres of the fuel tank and tips the scales at 142 kgs.

Features & Price

The Yamaha YZF-R15 comes with features such as LED headlamps and tail lamps, a sporty aluminium swingarm, a side-stand engine cut-off switch, a multifunction LCD display with speed, a tachometer, trip meter, gear position-indicator, VVA indicator, shift light etc. Speculations are that the new Red colour will be priced between the INR 1.50 lakh ex-showroom to INR 1.53 lakh ex-showroom mark.
