2021 BMW 3-series variant line-up in India shuffled

Written by Nizam Shaikh

In March 2020, BMW launched the new BMW 3 Series in the Indian market. The brand had back then removed the BMW 320d Sport trim from the portfolio and the only diesel-powered 3 series that remained in the line-up was the 320d Luxury Line. However, the 320d Sport was launched again in August at the price of INR 42.10 lakh. The brand has now re-shuffled the variant line-up and the 320d Sport has gone missing again.

The brand introduced a new retail price list which came into effect from 21st January 2021 which shows only three trims of the BMW 3 Series on offer. The 330i Sport (Petrol) priced at INR 42,60,000 ex-showroom, India, the 320d Luxury ‘Edition’ (Diesel) priced at INR 47,90,000 and the BMW 330i M Sport (Petrol) priced at INR 49,90,000 ex-showroom, India. The BMW 320d Sport is not on the list leading us to believe that the brand may have discontinued the model, maybe temporarily before it comes back for another round.

This shuffling of the variants in the 3 Series portfolio has led the 320d Luxury ‘Edition’ which was earlier launched as the Luxury Line, now becomes the mid-spec option and flanking the only diesel-powered trim is the base model 330i Sport and the top-of-the-line 330i M Sport. Earlier, the BMW 320d Sport was positioned below the Luxury Line.

BMW also launched the new 3 Series Gran Limousine at prices starting INR 51.50 lakh ex-showroom, India (Introductory). The BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine is also offered in three variants – the 330Li LuxuryLine (Petrol) as the entry-level trim priced at INR 51.50 lakh ex-showroom, India, the 330Ld LuxuryLine (Diesel) priced at INR 52.50 lakh ex-showroom, India and the 330Li M Sport First Edition (Petrol) priced at INR 53.90 lakh ex-showroom, India. The 3 Series Gran Limousine offers a 110mm longer wheelbase along with 110mm longer rear doors for easier ingress and egress and 43mm of extra legroom in the rear row.
