2020 Yamaha MT-15 with BS6 engine & new colour revealed

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Yamaha has revealed the BS6 compliant version of the MT-15 naked street sportsbike along with a new body colour option. The 2020 Yamaha MT-15 will get a new white + orange body colour option which the brand terms as Ice Fluo Vermillion. The bike does look very special and striking in this livery, unlike the other options which you get. Yamaha is yet to announce the pricing for the 2020 BS6 compliant MT-15 in India.

For 2020, the Yamaha MT-15 gets a rear radial tyre as standard and there is also a side-stand engine cut-off system in place which will ensure rider safety.

Just like the sporty sibling Yamaha YZF-R15 v3.0, the MT-15 with this BS6 update has seen a drop in power. The motorcycle with the 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor produces 18.3 BHP and 14.1 Nm which is down by 0.7 BHP and 0.6 Nm. The MT-15 continues with a 6-speed gearbox, slipper assist clutch, VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and an ECU developed specially for street riding performance.

The Yamaha MT-15 is more expensive than the FZ-25, which sounds as a superior product. But technically, the MT-15 is much more advanced with the technology it has to offer and hence the pricing premium. The MT-15 with its upright riding stance offers comfortable commuting with the same punch from the motor as the YZF-R15 V3.0. The secondary reduction gear ratio also helps for better city riding on the MT-15. Yamaha still offers this model only with a single-channel ABS setup and a cheaper box type swingarm.
