Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki was spotted road testing the new DR big bikes based on its adventure model – V-Strom 1000. Until now we had only heard speculations and rumours about the Suzuki DR Big to be reintroduced in the market along with some CGI renderings. But new spy shots that have been recently surfaced on the internet have confirmed that the ADV will be launched soon.
The DR Big appears very much like the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 which is powered by a 1037cc, liquid-cooled, 90° V-Twin which produces a maximum power output of 99 BHP @ 8000 RPM and 103 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM coupled to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. The V-Strom is 2285mm long, 865mm wide and 1410mm tall with a 1555mm wheelbase and 165mm ground clearance. The seat height of the Suzuki V-Strom is a towering 850mm and has a kerb weight of 228 kg. The stopping power on the V-Strom is achieved by dual front hydraulic disc brakes and a single disc hydraulically operated brake on the rear, equipped with a dual-channel ABS. The wheels are a 19-inch multi spoke alloy on the front and a 17-inch multi spoke alloy on the rear. In the suspension department, the Suzuki V-Strom gets an inverted telescopic with oil damped coil springs on the front and a link type oil damped coil spring mono shock on the rear.
The new DR Big is expected to come with a longer traveling suspension and higher ground clearance and will be more agile than the V-Strom and still will be a very capable off-road machine. The DR is expected to get the 20-litre capacity large fuel tank to make it a capable long-distance touring bike. Adventure biking and cross country touring segment have taken the world by storm and it will be very clever of Suzuki to launch the DR Big to compete with the class dominating German & Japanese brands.
The Suzuki DR Big is expected to launch in the international market by 2020
