Skoda has launched the 2020 Rapid 1.0 TSI in India at the starting price of INR 7.49 lakh ex-showroom, India. The 2020 Rapid 1.0 TSI is available in five trim variants – Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style and the top-trim Monte Carlo which is priced at INR 11.79 lakh ex-showroom, India. With the launch of the new Rapid 1.0 TSI, the brand has replaced the 1.5-litre TDI diesel and the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engines with the 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol motor and the 2020 model comes with only one engine option.
The Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI is powered by a BS6 emissions-compliant Turbocharged Stratified Injection (TSI) petrol engine that makes 110 Ps of power and 175 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The predecessor was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol engine that produced 103 Ps of power and 132 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
In terms of its design, the 2020 Rapid gets minor tweaks in the styling department and features new design 16-inch alloy wheels and a boot lip spoiler. The 2020 model also features dual-barrel projector headlamps, integrated LED lamps, chrome bezel vertically slated grille, a large air dam with fog lights flanking its sides, rounded wheel arches, a character line on the shoulder, blacked-out B-pillar, rear roof antenna, etc.
On the interiors, the 2020 Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI features dual-tone interiors, analogue instruments with digital multi-information display, control mounted steering wheel, leatherette seat upholstery, 16.51-cm touchscreen infotainment display in the centre of the dashboard, 20.32-cm Skoda infotainment system with Android on higher-spec models, rotary knobs for the climate control air conditioning, rear AC vents, etc.
The 2020 Skoda Rapid competes with the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the Indian market.
Skoda had commenced bookings on the Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI at a refundable booking amount of INR 50,000 at all Skoda authorised dealerships in India before the lockdown due to COVID-19 was initiated and continued to accept bookings online through their contactless digital sales platform.
