One of India’s favourite compact-SUVs has received a very significant makeover. Not just cosmetic, but also mechanical. Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2020 Vitara Brezza compact-SUV with a 1.5L BS6 compliant petrol engine. The Vitara Brezza was previously a diesel-only model with the 1.3L Fiat-sourced engine, and now becomes a petrol-only model in the sub-4 metre compact-SUV segment. Prices for the new model start from INR 7.34 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, and the Vitara Brezza continues to rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300. Maruti Suzuki had first revealed the updated Vitara Brezza at the Auto Expo 2020.

The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is available in 3 dual tone paint options which includes red + black, blue + black and grey + orange. Obviously there are more standard full body paint options. The Vitara Brezza was launched in 2016 and in less than 4 years it managed to sell more than 500,000 units in the Indian market. This car resulted in Maruti Suzuki becoming the leader in the Utility Vehicle segment.

Powering the 2020 Vitara Brezza is a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, K-Series, K15B, BS6 compliant petrol motor which produces 105 HP of peak power and 138 Nm of peak torque matched to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. The AMT gearbox is now replaced by the 4-speed automatic gearbox. Point to note, only the automatic variants come with the Maruti Suzuki Smart Hybrid tech (SHVS). The brand claims that the 2020 Vitara Brezza delivers 17.03 kmpl mileage with the manual variants and 18.76 kmpl with the automatic model.

Apart from the BS6 engine resulting in a higher price tag, it is also the engine capacity which is at 1,462cc which does not qualify to receive less excise duty as per the sub-4 metre segment. It will be interesting to note how the market responds to accept the new Vitara Brezza in a completely different fuel option in 2020 and moving forward. Maruti Suzuki will be dropping diesel-powered cars from its entire portfolio thanks to the new BS6 emission norms.
