Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Ignis in India at the starting price of INR 4.89 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Compact Urban SUV, as the brand calls it, was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and its pre-launch bookings commenced a couple of weeks ago at NEXA showrooms across the country.
On the exterior, the new Ignis comes with a refreshed front fascia and features a new U-shaped grille, U-shaped LED daytime running lights, projector headlights, rounded fog lamps integrated into the bumper with black inserts and a silver finish skid plate. On the side, the Ignis gets 15-inch all-black alloy wheels, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, muscular wheel arches, silver roof rails, an integrated rear spoiler and silver skid plate on the rear bumper.
On the interior, the new Ignis features a black and ivory dual-tone fabric upholstery, a blue highlighted panel on the central tunnel, a centrally mounted 17.78cm SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with live traffic, voice recognition, driver safety alerts, voice recognition and cloud connectivity.
In the engine department, the new Ignis is powered by a BS6 emission compliant 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine that produces 82.9 ps of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox with an option of an ‘Auto Gear Shift’ (AGS) automated manual transmission (AMT). In terms of its exterior dimensions the Ignis measures in at 3700mm long, 1690mm wide and 1595mm tall with a wheelbase of 2435mm. The Ignis also gets a boot space of 260-litres and can seat 5 people.
For safety, the car features Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) which allows effective crash energy absorption and dispersion, high tensile steel parts for major parts of its body, pedestrian protection compliance, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child anchorage system and other automotive industry-standard features such as seatbelt reminder, reverse sensor, over-speed alert system etc.
The new Ignis comes with two new exterior paints – Lucent Orange and Turquoise Blue, and three new dual colour options plus two premium customization options Acropolis and Scorcher theme.
