Mahindra has announced that the all-new Thar SUV has garnered over 9,000 bookings since its launch on 2nd October 2020. Mahindra also announced that the Thar company received more than 36,000 inquiries and 3.3 lakh visitors on the official website. In phase 1, Mahindra has commenced test drives in 18 cities with demo vehicles. The brand will also be adding 100 more cities on 10th of October 2020 with test drives for the rest of the country available from 15th October 2020. Furthermore, the deliveries on the all-new Thar is slated to commence from 1st November 2020.
The 4X4 lifestyle SUV not only appeals to traditional off-road aficionados but also to new urban lifestyle enthusiasts that can not only use the all-new Thar for weekend adventure trials but also for that Monday office commute. The brand also revealed that a lot of people have shown significant interest in the Convertible Top and Automatic Transmission top-end variants. The all-new Thar is offered in a dual trim concept – AX and LX. Both trims come with a 4X4 driveline as standard and are offered in both petrol and diesel iterations.
Powering the all-new Mahindra Thar is a new mStallion series 2.0-litre Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDi) four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC petrol engine that makes 150 Bhp of power and 320 Nm for AT (300 Nm for MT) of torque. The SUV is also offered in a traditional diesel powertrain that would be appreciated by off-roading purists. The diesel model is powered by a mHawk series 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 130 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque. Both powertrains are matched to a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed torque converter type automatic gearbox. The Mahindra Thar also features hardcore off-roading equipment such as a manual transfer case with a shift-on-fly electric driveline disconnect and a low crawl ratio of 42:1 with a 50:50 power split.
The Mahindra Thar comes at the starting price of INR 9.80 lakh ex-showroom, India. The Mahindra Thar is offered in six exterior colours – Red Rage, Rocky Beige, Galaxy Grey, Aquamarine, Mystic Copper and Napoli Black.
