Made-in-India and to be sold around the world, the all-new Kia Sonet is gearing up for a global debut in the coming week. This sub-4 metre SUV will be the 3rd product from Kia for the Indian market and will try and make a bold statement in the super competitive segment. The Indian market loves SUVs and the success of the Seltos is a good example. The brand has now revealed more pictures and more details ahead of the official unveiling event on the Sonet.
Features which have been confirmed for the Kia Sonet include a 10.25-inch, touchscreen HD display, Sound Mood Lighting, 2 layer tray for storage of smartphones and other oddities, new digital display for the speedometer cluster, UVO connected car features, steering mounted controls, driving modes, traction control modes, AC vents in the dashboard to come with diamond-knurled pattern for premium appeal, signature tiger nose grille, 3D stepwell mesh grille design, LED headlamps with LED tail lamps, LED DRLs, minimalist centre console layout, 6 airbags including front, side and curtain airbags, etc.
First revealed at the Auto Expo 2020, the Kia Sonet will be priced in the range of INR 7 – 11 lakh ex-showroom.
The design sketches reveal prominent roof rails, spoiler on the tailgate, black applique around the rear windscreen, bold skid plates, dual tone snazzy alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, healthy dost of body cladding, possibility of chrome accents around the window sills, leather wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, multiple cup / bottle holders, relatively flat dashboard top to allow for placement of deities, driver armrest with storage underneath, possibility of art leather seats, etc.
While engine specifications are not yet revealed, we know that the Kia Sonet will share its powertrains with the Hyundai Venue. So expect a naturally aspirated petrol, a turbo-petrol and a turbo-diesel engine to be on offer. Kia will also sell the Sonet with the new iMT gearbox for ease of use and also a DCT unit on the turbo-petrol motor. More details to be shared next week. Stay tuned, and keep that cheque book ready…
