2020 Ducati Multistrada V4 caught testing

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Not the clearest of spyshot images, but we knew this was coming. After the Panigale V4, Ducati had officially announced the Streetfighter V4. Now, these spyshots are reported to be of the 2020 Ducati Multistrada V4 which could be revealed at the EICMA show in Milan later this year. The bike would hit showrooms worldwide in 2020, and will be the new top spec motorcycle in the Multistrada portfolio. Currently in India, we have the Ducati Multistrada 950 and 1260 models.

This camouflaged prototype motorcycle we see in spyshots will make use of an all-new V4 layout engine. While the bike still pretty much looks like a Multistrada, expect some extra bulk in the centre as the V-Twin motorcycle would now sport a V4 engine. At the moment, the easiest change one can notice on the bike is the new exhaust system. The exhaust will now have more gases flowing to the end from two additional cylinders compared to the current crop of Multistrada bikes.

We expect the 2020 Multistrada V4 to be an all-new motorcycle, rather than just a model year change with a new engine. With the new motor, the chassis components would need tweaking, and with the additional weight, even the suspension, ride height and all other aspects will need to be reworked.

The Panigale V4 has a 1,103cc, Desmosedici Stradale 90°, liquid-cooled, V4 motor producing 214 HP of power @ 13000 RPM and 124 Nm of torque @ 10000 RPM mathced to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper assist clutch. While this is a superbike format, we expect the engine to be retuned on the Multistrada V4 to meet the adventure touring requirements. Even the gearing and torque availability across the revv range will be different compared to the Panigale V4.

Ducati is also set to launch the naked Streetfighter V4 at the EICMA show in Milan later this year. Exciting times ahead for V4 engine layout fanboys…
