2019 Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle spotted before launch, styling & changes revealed

Written by Parichay Malvankar

The moment many fanboys and potential customers have been waiting for, the Yamaha MT-15 naked street bike has been spotted completely undisguised ahead of the official launch which is slated for March 15, 2019. While the bike seen here has tried to mask its identity with tapes here and there, we all know this is the upcoming MT-15.

The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 unlike the Indonesian version will drop a few components to lower the cost. So the aluminium swing arm and the USD front forks are replaced by a box-type swing arm and conventional telescopic front forks. Rest of the equipment remains unchanged. What the Indian market gets extra includes dual-channel ABS, rear tyre hugger with integrated saree guard and a grab rail neatly tucked in under the rear panel.

Expect Yamaha to launch the new MT-15 in at least 3 colour options. Seen here is the matte blue with neon accents version.

Powering the MT-15 will be the same 155cc, single-cylinder engine seen on the YZF-R15 V3.0. This liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC motor produces 19.3 PS of power and 14.7 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper assist clutch. What will make the Yamaha MT-15 the most advanced in its segment is the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) tech which gives it great low-end and top-end performance. The bike will also continue with the Deltabox chassis, which is appreciated be all.

Other features of the Yamaha MT-15 for India includes projector LED headlamp, LED DRLs, LED tail lamp, full digital instrument console, engine underbelly cowl, sculpted fuel tank with tank shrouds, small fly screen, single-piece contoured seat, rear monoshock, full size rear mud guard, fibre fuel tank panels, AHO, full size exhaust, and the likes…

Expect pricing of the Yamaha MT-15 to be in the range of INR 1.2 lakh ex-showroom.
