Written by Nizam Shaikh

Porsche has revealed the 2019 model of 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder and the brand has announced that the cars will use 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, flat six engines which is an upgrade from the earlier 3.8-litre displacement engine on the GT4 and Spyder.

The new engine line called 9A2 Evo does not employ a turbocharger and yet develops 420 PS of power. The power output is 45 PS more than the previous Spyder and 35 PS more than the previous GT4. The maximum torque of 420 Nm is from 5,000 to 6,800rpm. Which means the new 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 and the Boxster Spyder can sprint from nought to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and both cars can do a top speed of more than 300 kmph. The GT4 and the Spyder both come equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) system which has a rear differential lock that enables higher traction and significantly increased lateral dynamics and vehicle stability during load changes in corners.

The cars are designed aerodynamically and the GT4 produces up to 50% more downforce than the predecessor and features a new functional diffuser which increases 30% more downforce on the rear. The fixed wing also accounts for 20% more efficient than the old one. The Spyder is less aero efficient and has an electronically controlled rear spoiler that raises at 119 kmph and is the first Boxster to use a rear diffuser to generate downforce on the rear axle.

Both Sports cars sport the same GT chassis and get race inspired suspension which is equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management damping system. The car gets optional ceramic brakes with track focused calipers.

The interior of the car gets an instrument cluster with three round instruments and a central rev counter with a yellow needle, Alcantara on the steering wheel and also on the gear lever the Alcantara is also used on door panels and door pulls and the car gets the option of three seats – Sport Seats Plus, Adaptive Sport Seat Plus and Full Bucket Seats.

The 718 Cayman GT4 is also offered with the option of a Clubsport package which includes a fire extinguisher, a six-point seat harness for the driver and a steel roll bar.
