To fill the void between Nano and the Indica, Tata Motors is working on a new hatchback dubbed as the Kite. This new car will be pitched against the Maruti Alto, Datsun Go and the Hyundai Eon. Now, images have emerged on the web suggesting that Tata Motors has already started testing the vehicle in Pune, near Tata Motor’s Pimpri factory.
Images reveal that the car is smaller in height compared to the Nano and the overall length looks as if it is somewhere between the Nano and the Indica. Rumours suggest that the Kite, which will debut in 2015, will be powered by a turbo petrol and a turbo diesel engine. Chances are that Tata Motors could also use their recently revealed F-Tronic AMT on the Kite, to fight against the upcoming Maruti Alto K10 AMT.
Tata Motors expects the Kite to change their sales fortunes which the Nano hasn’t been able to. This new product will be manufactured at the manufacturers underutilised Sanand facility, which only manufactures the Tata Nano currently. Tata also plans to launch two completely new models every year, for the next five years. For 2014, the Tata Zest and Tata Bolt will make it to the production line.
