Honda Motorcycle has issued a recall for more than 20,000 units of its Gold Wing, CBR1000RR Fireblade, and CBR 600 RR models. The recall affects motorcycles produced between 2018 and 2020.
Why the Recall?
The recall was issued in both America and Germany. Of the total units recalled, 17,374 are from the USA and 2,264 are from Germany. The reason for this recall is a faulty fuel pump.
The Faulty Fuel Pump
Honda states that the impeller plastic in the fuel pump hasn’t been cast as per the specifications and isn’t hard enough. It could develop cracks if contacted with petrol residue solvents for a long time. This could lead to a fuel pump failure, which may end in stalling the engine.
The Solution
To rectify this issue, Honda has initiated the recall and will replace the faulty fuel pump free of cost. In Germany, the Honda Gold Wings built from 2018 to 2020, the CBR 1000 RR Fireblade produced between 2018 and 2019, and the CBR 600 RR from 2018 to 2020, are probably in need of the said repair.
Impact on the Honda motorcycles in India
So far, Honda has come across this issue only in America and Germany. It is yet to be known whether the same applies to any other markets. Currently, Honda India only offers the Gold Wing Tour in the country. As of now, customers in India need not worry about the recall.
Owners of the affected models are advised to contact their local Honda dealership for further information.
