1 lakh units of the Mahindra XUV5OO sold in 33 months

It’s been 33 months from the date of launch, and the Mahindra XUV5OO SUV has managed to sell over 1,00,000 units. This milestone sales figure was achieved a couple of days back. The XUV5OO was launched in India in September 2011, and managed to capture a significant market share in the D1 segment. The 50,000th unit of the SUV was sold in January 2013.

The XUV5OO is available for sale at prices ranging between Rs. 10.79 lakh – Rs. 14.64 lakh. Mahindra officials claim that this is the fastest SUV to touch the 1 lakh sales figure in the Rs. 10 lakh – Rs. 20 lakh price bracket. With a long feature list, along with a couple of segment firsts, the XUV5OO attracted customers from different segments.

It is powered by a 2.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine producing 140 BHP of power and 330 Nm of torque. Gearbox is a 6-speed unit and the SUV is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. Performance along with the ride and handling were much superior to the Scorpio, and hence, the car was well received by the customers.

Mahindra has tried to keep the product fast moving by launching various special editions and paint schemes on the XUV5OO. Recently, a limited edition Sportz version also made it to the market which was based on the W8 FWD variant.

Also, it was mentioned that there is a possibility of a hybrid and an automatic transmission variant of the XUV5OO making it to the market in the future.

Mahindra also exports the vehicle to South Africa, Europe, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Australia and Sri Lanka.
