1.5 million production milestone for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India

German automotive conglomerate, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has successfully achieved a production milestone of 15 lakh vehicles. In India, the Group manages other leading brands like Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini via its manufacturing facilities at Pune and Aurangabad. SAVWIPL commented that it finally managed to achieve this milestone thanks to the production of the Skoda Kushaq in Pune. Overall, SAVWIPL expressed its milestone achievement by also crediting the success of its products in the domestic and export market.

Model Portfolio & Other Achievements 

The achievement of producing 15 lakh units highlights the engineering and manufacturing collaboration between the Volkswagen group’s global and Indian teams. Meanwhile, SAVWIPL’s facility in Pune currently produces the Skoda Kushaq SUV, Skoda Slavia sedan, Volkswagen Taigun SUV, Volkswagen Virtus sedan. On the other hand, the group’s Aurangabad facility focuses on building premium luxury models from Skoda, Volkswagen, and Audi. This also showcases the SAVWIPL’s strong focus on localisation in order to maintain its image and keep low production costs.

Additionally, they will continue onwards with their ‘India 2.0’ vision along with introducing an ‘India 2.5’ vision soon. SAVWIPL also commented that it has provided several memorable products over the last two decades for the Indian market. Therefore, it has also focussed on nurturing strong relationships with Indian customers and its growth via its production facilities. Up until the end of December 2021, SAVWIPL exported a total of 5,45,700 vehicles to other key markets.

During the 2nd week of March 2022, Volkswagen described its progress of becoming a tech company via its ‘ACCELERATE’ strategy. The automaker talked about its appreciable increase in sales revenue, returns, and operating profits during its last fiscal year performance. Under this strategy, Volkswagen focussed on optimising its cost structure and revealed that it had delivered 4.9 million vehicles throughout 2021.

This achievement suggested that its revenue grew by 7% to reach EUR 76.1 billion along with special items. The automaker also revealed that its e-mobility department’s value reached the EUR 18 billion mark with plans for hybridisation and digitisation.
