While GST has put up a big question mark on the future of electric cars here in India temporarily, things are being revisited and brands are hopeful for a favourable revision. Now, it is being said that Tata Motors is also developing an electric version of the Tiago hatchback.

This development though is not just for a concept showcase, but Tata Motors is seriously considering a market debut of the Tiago electric. This could be the brands first electric car to go on sale.

Tata Motors is developing the Tiago electric with assistance from UK-based Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC).

Previously, Tata Motors had showcased the Bolt EV concept, which could form the base of development for the Tiago. The Tiago EV could be competitively priced, considering its low-cost platform.

Currently, the Tiago comes powered with a petrol & diesel engine with manual and AMT gearbox options. Chances are, the electric version would only get an AT gearbox. However, more details about this project are still kept under the box. Expect the Tiago electric to make a debut at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo.
