Next-gen 2018 Maruti Suzuki WagonR begins testing in India

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Maruti Suzuki has started road testing the new generation WagonR which could be launched later in 2018. The WagonR has been the dark horse for the brand, and has been selling in significant numbers consistently. Now only is it a favourite for commercial segment, but even as a family car, the WagonR has immense popularity thanks to the practicality it offers. With a new model coming in, things could only get better.

The new WagonR will have a host of changes, but from the spyshots doing the rounds on the internet, the car is going to sport an evolutionary design. So it will be a bit boxy to say the least, but will be much better to look at than the older model with plenty of new features coming in. The tall boy WagonR design will be retained, which has been a mass market favourite because it offers so much more headroom. The images posted in this article are of the WagonR from the Japanese market, but we don’t think the Indian car will be identical to this.

The 2018 WagonR will come with a new chassis, which will make it stronger than before to meet the upcoming safety norms. The powertrain though will be carried over from the current model, so expect a 1.0L, 3-cylinder block with slightly more power and torque than what you get now, but this engine could be more efficient and less polluting.

ABS, airbags will surely be on offer in the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR. Just to give it an edge in the segment, expect features such as projector headlamps, climate control, touchscreen infotainment, MID to be available on the top trims.

For the immediate future, Maruti Suzuki has the facelift Ciaz & new Ertiga to be launched.
