MG Motor names their SUV as Hector, launch in mid-2019

MG Motor has officially announced that their first SUV for India will be christened as the Hector. The MG Hector when launched, will be a rival to the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and also the Tata Harrier if size is anything to consider. The MG Hector is a car which is sold globally under many brand names, the Baojun 530 to specify one.

The MG Hector is already undergoing road testing to be tweaked and tuned to meet the Indian requirements. MG stands for Morris Garages. This is an iconic brand from UK, and is now more of a Chinese product.

From the teaser, we can note that the Hector will get LED turn indicators, white backlit instrument console, multiple slats on the front grille, traction control, steering mounted controls, LED DRLs, alloy wheels, body cladding, and more than you keen eye can notice.

MG Motor is expected to launch the Hector wil a 1.5L petrol engine which will be turbocharged, and a 2.0L turbo diesel motor which will be sourced from FCA, the Jeep Compass engine to be precise. There will also be automatic gearbox options when this car is launched.

The SUV space in the Indian market is showing phenomenal growth in recent times. And hence, every new manufacturer is entering India with an SUV first. Kia will also launch the SP2i in India later this year.
