Morris Garages has the new SUV – MG Hector ready to be launched soon in India. The MG Hector has been the talk of the town because of its internet-enabled smart connectivity features. Some pictures of the interiors that have recently surfaced gave us an idea about the interior features of the car.

The first thing to notice is the large Tesla-like 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed in the centre. The infotainment system comes with an iSmart interface that comes preloaded with a lot of applications like the weather forecast app AccuWeather and music streaming apps such as Gaana and supports both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. It is connected to the internet using a 5G enabled SIM built into the unit. Some key features such as Automotive Voice Assistant which recognizes over 100 voice commands and the voice assistant can be activated by saying “Hello MG”, like a smartphone. The voice assistant feature can be used to do tasks such as opening and closing the windows, sunroof, set air-conditioning temperature, etc.

The iSmart system will get over-the-air (OTA) updates similar to a smartphone. The safety feature on the MG Hector provides 24×7 customer support in case of an accident. When the airbags are deployed the car automatically makes an e-call and sends a message with the location of the car to a Pulse Hub, MG’s customer management centre, and also to the registered mobile numbers for sharing information about the incident. The iSmart mobile application allows owners to turn on the ignition, switch on the air-conditioning and lock or unlock the car. It can also be used to check vehicle status and tyre pressure.

The spacious interiors have ac vents on both the sides of the infotainment system stacked vertically with silver bezels around them. Below the infotainment system is the AC controls with push button type switch in chrome accents. The MG Hector gets steering mounted controls and an engine start-stop button on the dashboard.

The MG Hector is expected to get 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre engines with 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission as an option. MG is also expected to introduce a hybrid version of the Hector in India.

The MG Hector is expected to be launched in June 2019 with a price tag between INR 15 to 20 lakh ex-showroom. The MG Hector will compete with Mahindra XUV 500, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the likes.
