Maruti Suzuki working on an electric MPV?

Written by News Team

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on an all-new electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), codenamed ‘YMC’. This development is part of Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious plan to expand its product portfolio with as many as eight all-new cars.

A New Chapter in Maruti Suzuki Electric Journey

The YMC is expected to share the eVX’s skateboard platform. The eVX, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, is based on a born-electric architecture developed jointly by Maruti and Toyota. This versatile platform can accommodate different body styles and battery pack options.

Powertrain and Battery Options

The YMC is likely to inherit the eVX’s powertrain and battery options. This could include 40 kWh and 60 kWh batteries, offering a maximum range of around 550 km. Such a range would make the YMC a strong contender in the electric vehicle market.

Launch Timeline

The YMC is expected to make its debut in the second half of 2026. This launch will follow the introduction of Maruti’s first pure-electric car, the eVX, around September-October 2024. The launch of the YMC will mark a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicle journey. As the sixth three-row model from the brand, the YMC will join the ranks of the Ertiga, XL6, Invicto, upcoming Grand Vitara-based seven-seater SUV, and the Suzuki Spacia-based hybrid MPV.

As we look forward to the launch of this all-new electric MPV, it’s clear that the future of mobility in India is electric, and Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to lead the charge which is currently taken up by Tata.ev.
