Maruti Suzuki still hasn’t introduced a facelift version of the Ciaz in the Indian market. The flagship sedan for the brand has moved to the premium Nexa outlet, but seems like the company wants to hold up the facelift till the refreshed Hyundai Verna also reveals all its cards.

Now, insider leaks reveal that the Ciaz when launched in its facelift avatar, might come with a new 1.5L diesel motor. This will be developed in-house, unlike the 1.3L diesel motor which is a Fiat-sourced unit. This motor is expected to help the Ciaz fight better with the segment rivals which come with bigger engines, 1.5L on the City and 1.6L on the Verna.

Currently, the Ciaz has a 1.3L 4-cylinder motor producing 89 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque. This comes coupled to a mild hybrid technology which Maruti Suzuki terms as SHVS. Also, this 1.3L motor is not going to be upgraded to BSVI emission norms, so it makes sense that the brand readies a new engine for the Ciaz, as well as other stablemates.

Also, with the new engine, Maruti Suzuki will not have to pay any royalty to Fiat.

Expect these new set of engines (a new 1.5L petrol as well) to be revealed on the Ciaz facelift mostly at the Auto Expo 2018.
