Written by Nizam Shaikh

French safety equipment manufacturer Ixon introduced its new IX-Airbag U03. This intelligent airbag system has a universal design and is wearable with any riding jacket. It is worn under the jacket and is independent and does not require any sensors from the bike.

Ixon IX-Airbag U03 has a blinding fast inflation time, less than 55 milliseconds and comes with a CE approved back-protector. The Ixon IX-Airbag U03 has 20 hours of battery and does not require any connection to the motorcycle. It has a wireless electronic crash detection system with embedded algorithms and is switchable between road mode and race track mode.

The Ixon IX-Airbag U03 has a breathable 3D mesh allowing optimum adjustment making it ergonomic and at 1.3 kg the Ixon IX-Airbag U03 is also light and will be available in sizes from S to 2XL. The Ixon IX-Airbag U03 has a smart In&box system which analyses the biker’s moves at a rate of 1000 times per second to detect a fall and in less than 55 milliseconds the airbag cushion gets inflated to protect the riders’ most sensitive areas like the collarbone, thorax, abdomen, neck and spine.

During the development phase, the airbag system was tested in competition by professional race riders, and is approved by the IRTA (International Racing Team Association).

The Ixon IX-Airbag U03 is sold as two units, the jacket and the In&box computing unit, which is the brain of the detection and deployment system. The jacket will be priced at 399.99 Euros and the In&box at 399 Euros, but they have introduced a leasing program which will allow users to acquire the removable In&box at 12 Euros a month or 120 Euros a year and the user can return and cancel the subscription at any time and restart in the future.
