Hyundai is working on multiple models to be launched in the near future in a bid to safeguard their market share. Also, keeping in mind the sustainable future, Hyundai is now considering to launch the Kona SUV in our market, but only in an electric variant.
The electric version of the Kona SUV will be revealed at the 2018 Geneva motor show and could be launched in India next year. Hyundai meanwhile has scrapped plans of introducing mild-hybrid & full-hybrid products in our segment since GST isn’t really leading to any benefits.
The Kona is an all-new model. In electric guise, it would sit alongside the Hyundai Ioniq in the global line-up. Although the details about drivetrain are unknown, the Ioniq comes with a 28 kWh battery producing 120 HP and a range of 280 km. So we have a reference of what to expect. Hyundai is hoping that the Kona can be launched with a range of around 250 km.
The Kona features a sharp & edgy design DNA and looks unlike any other Hyundai on sale at the moment. It will also come with class leading features.
But the big question is, if India ready for an electric SUV?
