Honda WR-V is a successful hatchback crossover, 50,000 units sold in 1st year

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Plenty of hatchback crossovers have made it to the Indian market. Starting with the Volkswagen Cross Polo, then the Toyota Etios Cross, then the Hyundai i20 Active, and then the Honda WR-V. We all know that the WR-V is nothing but a Jazz under the SUV-ish skin. A crossover based on the Jazz, the Honda WR-V however has become quite a success story in this unique segment.

Honda has managed to sell over 50,000 units of the WR-V so far which accounts for 28% of toal HCIL sales in the last 12 months. That’s quite a figure. In one year of its launch, the WR-V with its off-road friendly appearance and compact size has managed to find buyers easily, while the competition isn’t really to be seen on the streets anymore.

The Honda WR-V also brings first in segment features such as sunroof and touch panel for climate control. Honda reveals that Tier 1 markers contributed to 38% sales of the WR-V. Rest of the markets have also seen phenomenal acceptance for this model.

Powering the Honda WR-V is a 1199cc, 4-cylinder petrol motor producing 90 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel block is a 1498cc, 4-cylinder unit producing 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
