The Continental GT has not really been a fast moving product for Royal Enfield, but the brand isn’t giving up on this cafe racer. At the EICMA 2017 Royal Enfield have showcased the new Continental GT 650, which might look similar to the current model, but now comes with a bigger heart.
Powering the new Continental GT 650 is an all-new SOHC, 8-valve, air + oil cooled, 648cc, parallel-twin cylinder motor producing 47 BHP of power and 52 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox coupled to a slipper assist clutch. This makes the motor the most refined in the brands portfolio.
The bike shares the new chassis with the Interceptor INT 650 but is a completely different motorcycle true to the cafe racer DNA. With a front leaning posture, the Continental GT 650 is a more engaging motorcycle.
The new Continental GT 650 will come with ABS, unlike the current Continental GT 535 which only gets front & rear disc brakes.
The single-seat, sculpted tank, clip-on handle bars, deliver the cafe racer styling on point.
The Continental GT is an ode to the cafe racers of the 50’s. Café racers were born in the 1950s in keeping with the emerging racing culture of those times. Racers bought stock motorcycles and stripped down the parts to make it light and aerodynamic. The new Continental GT 650 recaptures Royal Enfield’s authentic café racer legacy. It retains the look while taking performance to the next level in terms of ride and handling.
