Written by Nizam Shaikh

Global NCAP a UK based charity working internationally to reduce road deaths and serious injuries has crash tested the Citroen e-C3 EV. According to the GNCAP report, the Citroen e-C3 has received Zero Stars for safety in the adult occupant protection department and just one star for child occupant safety. GNCAP’s secretary general also commented that PSA once was a leader in the safety department but has taken a major step backwards, now as part of the Stellantis Group.

Citroen e-C3 – Adult Occupant Protection

In the frontal offset deformable test, the car offers good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. However, it offers weak protection to the chest area of the driver and the passenger’s chest shows poor protection. While the passengers knee get good protection the driver’s knee only gets marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia.

While the bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of further loadings, the footwell area was rated as unstable. In the side impact test, the head showed marginal protection and the chest showed adequate protection. However the abdomen and pelvis showed good protection. GNCAP did not perform the side pole impact test as there is no availability of side head protection even as an option.

While ESC is not fitted as standard and SBR does not meet minimum Global NCAP requirements for scoring leading to an overall score of 20.86 points out of the maximum 34.00 in the AOP.

Citroen e-C3 – Child Occupant Protection

In the Child Occupant Protection department, the Citroen e-C3 could not prevent excessive forward exposure and head contact with vehicle interior for the three year old child dummy. However, the side impact showed full protection. The The vehicle also does not offer at least 2 Isofix positions as standard. The 18-month old child dummy in rearward facing position was able to get full protection in the frontal impact. However in the side impact the head was exposed and dynamic points were zero for this scenario. In the COP, the car scored 10.55 points out of 49.00, earning 1 star.
