The BMW 8-Series is back, and it is just as gorgeous as its predecessor. This new 2-door German coupe was revealed at the Villa d’Esteat the Concorso d’Eleganza which is currently ongoing. However, this 8-series is still in concept form and will take some time before it is available for purchase in showrooms.

This is the 8-series, so it will become the flagship car for BMW. It could very well be the most expensive car the brand would bring to the markets globally.

Some would miss the pop-up headlamps of the older 1990s BMW 8-Series as well as the V8 & V12 motors it came with. Specifications for the new 8-Series are still under cover. When launched, the new 8-Series will be a rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

BMW also has plans for a drop-top version of the 8-Series. While the coupe is expected to hit the streets in 2018, the folding top version could come out by 2019.

The car is built on the BMW CLAR architecture which is a rear-wheel drive platform. But, this layout is all-new with the 8-Series getting its own uique wheelbase & track widths along with a lowered stance. BMW says the 21″ rims from the concept would be available as optional when launched. The car also makes use of lightweight components such as plastic reinforced carbon fibre, etc.

xDrive could also be available on the BMW 8-Series. Previous leaks though hint at a 840i variant running a 3.0L turbo-petrol motor, 850i with a 4.4L turbo-petrol V8 motor and a 860i xDrive M Performance version with a 6.6L V12 block. An 840e with a petrol + electric setup could also be a possibility.
