Another electric scooter has made it to the Indian streets. Although it comes with a long list of features, the price tag could very well make it a dead on arrival product. The penetration of electric scooters is still low & slow in the Indian market, and Ather Energy has now launched two new products.

The Ather 340 & 450 e-scooters have been launched in India at a price tag of INR 1,09,750 & INR 1,24,750 respectively. Do note, this pricing includes a subsidy of INR 22,000 under the FAME initiative, otherwise the price could have been higher. Ather had first planned the S340 scooter, but has now launched the 450 variant as well. Both scooters are pretty much the same, except for the changes in battery.

The Ather 340 is powered by a 4.4 kW motor which produces 20 Nm of torque and has a top speed of 70 kmph. This scooter can spring from 0-40 kmph in 5.1 seconds. The lithium-ion battery of the 340 has a capacity of 1.92 kWh. The Ather 450 comes with a 5.4 kW motor producing 20.5 Nm of torque, 80 kmph of top speed and 0-40 kmph sprint time of 3.9 seconds. The lithium-ion battery of the Ather 450 has a capacity of 2.4 kWh.

Ather claims that the 450 scooter will have a range of 75 km in eco mode and 60 km in power mode. The Ather 340 will have a range of 60 km in eco mode and 50 km in power more. With fast charging, you can have the Ather scooters 80% charged in 50 minutes.

In terms of features, the Ather 340 & 450 scooters come with a 7.0″ touchscreen infotainment, LED headlamp, GPS, OTA updates, charging station tracking, custom UI, diagnostics, parking assist, combi-brakes, 6-axis , mobile app, alloy wheels, front + rear disc brakes, telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, and 160mm of ground clearance.

Ather is offering a warranty of 2 years / 30,000 km and the battery has a 3 year / unlimited km warranty.

But the big question, will you or anyone buy an electric scooter for more than 1 lakh rupees?
