Are you ready for the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R?

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Spotted testing yet again, but this looks like a spyshot from inside the Maruti Suzuki factory, this what you see in images is the all-new Wagon R. Reports suggest that the new Wagon R is all set for a debut in January 2019, but no official confirmation about this launch timeline. However, these images surely reveal the full car, and it does look like quite an evolution from the current boxy design.

The all-new Wagon R will continue to be a tall-boy car design. Also because this styling releases a lot of space inside the cabin, even for taller occupants. From the looks of it, the new Wagon R is boxy, but less flat around all sides compared to the outgoing model. One can notice new headlamps, new vertical tail lamps, chrome number plate garnish, blacked out C-pillar, flap door handles, high mount stop lamp, reflectors on rear bumper, chrome accents on front grille, roof mounted antenna and steel wheels.

Inside, the Wagon R for 2019 is expected to provide more room. For sure this will be bigger than before. A new dashboard design, new instrument console with MID, new infotainment system, better seats, better plastics all around and the likes are expected. The new Wagon R could also have a larger cargo carrying boot space.

ABS & Airbags will be offered as standard on the new Wagon R.

Powering the car will be a 1.0L motor, which is a 3-cylinder block similar to the current car. Power could be in the range of 67 BHP with 90 Nm of torque. Rumours suggest that a 1.2L petrol motor could also be on offer for top trims. Also, AMT gearbox option will be offered with the new Wagon R and fuel efficiency numbers will be better than ever. CNG? Yes, CNG variants will be launched in due course of time.

The new Wagon R will rival the recently launched all-new Hyundai Santro. The Santro has left us impressed with the quality of interiors. Will the Wagon R be able to better it?
