After 20 years, it is ‘Good Bye Indica’

Written by Parichay Malvankar

It was 1998 when Tata Motors announced the Indica, and it was a revolution back then. However, times have changed, but the car didn’t evolve much to fend of more premium & rather reliable competition. So after 20 years, the Indica nameplate is finally being taken off the shelf.

Tata Motors has stopped production of not only the Indica hatchback, but even the Indigo eCS compact sedan. For now, there is no update if these cars will make a come back anytime soon. But for sure, in due course of time, expect a more modern & better looking Indica & Indigo to be showcased at least in concept form.

The Indica was always a low budget but spacious hatchback for the mass market. The Indigo eCS on the other hand was the car that defined the sub-4 metre sedan segment when it was launched. However, with poor interiors long term reliability being questionable, and the design showing age, these cars were not really doing well in the sales department.

Existing customers need not worry as the brand will continue to provide spares and service support.

On the other hand, new cars from Tata Motors like the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon & Hexa have carved out a space for themselves in their respective segments. All new cars from Tata Motors are offering pretty much everything at par with the competition, and customers are accepting the brand openly without any hesitation.
