2019 Yamaha MT-15 will become the segment benchmark in 150cc class

While the new FZ from Yamaha is going to be launched tomorrow, there is a lot of expectation from another 150cc class motorcycle that the Japanese brand is readying for the Indian market. Spotted on test multiple times now, the Yamaha MT-15 when launched will easily become the benchmark in its segment when it comes to performance, and overall package.

Expect the Yamaha MT-15 to be priced nearly INR 10,000 – 15,000 cheaper than the YZF-R15 v3.0. So a price tag of around INR 1.1 lakh ex-showroom can be expected. The interesting thing would be the confusion this will create for customers if they should buy the MT-15 or the FZ-25.

The MT-15 will share the engine with the YZF-R15 V3.0. This is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled block producing 18.7 BHP of power and 15 Nm of torque. What makes the motor advanced is that it comes with VVA which helps in both low end and top end performance. Hence, the MT-15 engine will make it the most superior 150cc motorcycle in the Indian market. Gearbox will be a 6-speed unit with slipper clutch.

The MT-15 from the spyshots has revealed that it will get a single LED projector headlamp which looks very radical, LED tail lamp, LED DRLs, full digital instrument console, a budget swingarm, telescopic front fork, front and rear disc brake with ABS, Deltabox chassis, sculpted fuel tank, tank shrouds, full size exhaust and contoured step-up seats.

Expect Yamaha to launch the new MT-15 around mid-2019.
