2019 Next-Gen R25 / R3 will get radical design change and mechanical upgrades

Yamaha’s R25 & R3 models are facing the heat globally from competition which have been updated recently. The Japanese brand is now considering a major refresh, or rather, a complete model change for the R25 & R3. The YZF-R25 & YZF-R3 for 2019 could be an all-new motorcycle and could not only feature cosmetic upgrades, but the internals and mehanicals might also be worked upon.

According to rumours from Japanese sources, the 2019 R25 / R3 is already under development. This could be showcased at INTERMOT, EICMA or Tokyo Motor Show.

The 2019 R25 & R3 are expected to get a radical design change. The new model will feature styling similar to the R6 & R1 and come with a more aggressive front end design. Most importantly, the headlamp setup will now come with LEDs, which even the smaller R15 comes equipped with. The full fairing, rear profile, tail lamp, speedometer and even the wheels could be redesigned.

Sources suggest that Yamaha might rework the engine to produce more power and torque. To improve dynamics, the bike would also get a new chassis and a USD front fork. But these are just rumours, and nothing can be confirmed till we at least spot a test motorcycle. VVA, Variable Valve Actuation technology could also make way in the motor, to deliver better low-end and high-end performance.

The riding position though will still remain relaxed, as a sports tourer. To keep newbies into the entry-level sportsbike category comfortable.

While Kawasaki has already introduced the Ninja 400 in India, a reworked Ninja 300 with a cheaper price tag is coming soon. This will undercut the pricing of the Yamaha YZF-R3 on sale in India, which was refreshed and launched at the Auto Expo 2018. So a new R25 / R3 is surely due, to fend of increasing competition.
