2018 Hyundai i20 Active launched in India, not really a facelift

Written by Parichay Malvankar

While in the markets abroad, Hyundai has revealed the facelift to the i2o Active, Hyundai India seems to have a different plane. The South Korean manufacturer has introduced a refreshed version of the i20 Active which is not really a facelift, but gets subtle cosmetic changes. Prices for the 2018 Hyundai i20 Active start from INR 6.99 lakh – INR 10.01 lakh. (ex-showroom Delhi).

Amongst the list of changes for the 2018 i20 Active, you now get a dual tone paint job, new ‘Active’ black strip on the tail gate, silver accents around rear fog lamps, new infotainment system and new seat upholstery. That’s it. Everything else remains the same on the car. Powering the petrol i20 Active is a 1.2L motor producing 83 PS of power and 11.7 kg.m of torque while the diesel variant comes with a 1.4L motor producing 90 PS of power and 22.4 kg.m of torque. Both variants are available only with a manual gearbox option.

In the initial days, it was the i20 Active which was a success story in the hatchback based crossover segment, but now, it is the Honda WR-V which wins this battle. The i20 Active needs more changes to continue fighting in the segment.

No official statement from Hyundai has been received yet. So we can still expect a proper mid-life makeover for the i20 Active and consider this as just some subtle new year changes on the crossover.
